Quote of the Day

Today's Quote of the Day is in honor of my sister Paige's 30th birthday. Although younger than I, Paige is one of my heroes. She has taught me much through the years. I first read this quote on a bookmark she gave me years ago, and I also think she fully and completely lives it, which makes me very proud of her.

"God has not called me to be successful; He has called me to be faithful."

Redshirt Update

We had another great Redshirt scrimmage last Thursday. The guys continue to battle hard, as well as do a great job working scout teams for the O & D. In the scrimmage, Michael Beach had several great catches, as did Alex Finley. Bo Woods laid a vicious block, and the entire OL (Connor Walkup, Dallon Hudson, Kyle Reeves, Chase Jones & Clayton Lemmons) continues to improve. Defensively, DEs Anthony Frizzell & Trevor Hunt continue to play tenaciously, Joe English and Taylor Powell are still impossible to block at their LB spots, and Marquale Pierson & Philip Mion were as tough as ever. We'll have another scrimmage this Thursday.

Following the scrimmage, all the freshmen loaded up on a bus as we made a trip to the booming metropolis of Georgetown, AR to eat catfish. It was a lot of fun watching the guys eat and fellowship and eat some more. The coaches feel good about this group of young men, both on and off the field.

My Eternal King

Thanks to Coach Yates for sharing this Latin poem with us in our last staff meeting. The words are powerful and moving. Enjoy.

My Eternal King

My God, I love Thee;
not because I hope for heaven thereby,
Nor yet because who love Thee not
Must die eternally.

Thou, O my Jesus, Thou didst me
Upon the cross embrace;
For me didst bear the nails, the nails and spear,
And manifold disgrace.

Why, then why, O blessed Jesus Christ,
Should I not love Thee well?
Not for the hope of winning heaven,
Or of escaping hell;

Not with the hope of gaining aught,
Not seeking a reward;
But as Thyself hast loved me,
O ever-loving Lord!

E’en so I love Thee, and will love,
And in Thy praise will sing;
Solely because Thou art my God,
And my Eternal King.

Quote of the Day

Today's quote is in memory of Bill Pritchard who passed away Tuesday, and will be laid to rest today. Bill was my wife's maternal grandfather, and one of the finest men I have ever known. He was strong, gentle, kind, compassionate, loving, giving, caring, and, to me, most of all, humble. He was a great man, and perhaps this quote explains why he was so great.

“We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility."

-- Rabindranath Tagore

Which reminds me of another great quote that Bill personified:

The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

-- Jesus of Nazareth
