Message from Coach Beason

Bisons,

Several guys have asked about helping the family I mentioned yesterday. I know that was short notice, but we still had a good group out there to help (including 7 baseball players). Anyway, this is still short notice (but a little more notice). A group of us are going back to their house tomorrow (Saturday) morning. We are meeting at STAPLES at 8:45am. It only takes about 10 minutes to get to the house. You can stay for 30 minutes or you can stay for a couple of hours. Any help would be appreciated. Just wear clothes you can paint in, work outside in, blow insulation in, etc. You don't have to be a "handy man" to help. We need man power!! Thanks!

Quote of the Day

Habakkuk 3:17, 18

"Although the fig-tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls; yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation." --NASB

"Though the cherry trees don't blossom, and the strawberries don't ripen; Though the apples are worm-eaten, and the wheat fields stunted; Though the sheep pens are sheepless, and the cattle barns empty, I'm singing joyful praise to God. I'm turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God." --The Message

Even when times are tough, I will praise God.

Spring Break Mission Trip

For the third consecutive year, the Harding University Football team is planning a spring break mission trip to Timothy Hill Children's Ranch in Riverhead, New York on Long Island. The camp is run by Thaddeus Hill, a member of the Bison football team from 1991-1994, and is a blessing to countless young people each year. To learn more about the ranch, go to www.timothyhillranch.org.

There has been and will continue to be a great amount of effort put forth by this student in preparation to fulfill the specific needs of the community they are reaching out to this spring break. Harding University Spring Break Missions knows the importance in allowing students the opportunity to serve hands-on and we appreciate that you do as well.

All money donated for this trip will remain in that account and only be used for Harding Football's Spring Break Missions. Extra money that a student may raise will be allotted toward other students involved in this mission who are not able to raise as much. Any donations made to sponsor a student can be used for tax deduction purposes. Please make checks payable to Harding University (memo to HU Football) and send to Coach Lee Edwards, Harding University Athletics, Box 12281, Searcy, Arkansas 72149.

Thank you in advance for supporting this student financially and also prayerfully. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Lee Edwards at 501-279-4764 or ledward2@harding.edu.

New Coach Named

Brian Stewart Named Harding's Offensive Line Coach
Stewart spent the last seven seasons at Jackson Christian.
by Scott Goode

SEARCY – Harding head football coach Ronnie Huckeba announced the hiring of Brian Stewart as the Bison football team’s new offensive line coach. Stewart replaces Tim Perry, who resigned to take the head coaching position at Nashville (Ark.) High School.

“Coach Stewart is a high-energy coach that will have a tremendous impact on our team,” said Huckeba. “He is a strong spiritual leader and a passionate football coach. He will be an excellent role model for our young men as we continue to strive to honor God in every aspect of our football program.”

Stewart comes to Harding from Jackson (Tenn.) Christian School where he served as the head football coach and athletic director. Stewart began at Jackson Christian in 2003 as the head baseball coach and assistant football coach. He became the head football coach in 2006 and led the Eagles to a Tennessee Class 1A state championship, earning District 15A Coach of the Year, West Tennessee Football Coach of the Year and Tennessee Sportswriters Coach of the Year honors. The school moved to 2A in 2007, and Stewart’s squad earned a playoff berth and was a state quarterfinalist in 2008.

In 2002 and 2003, Stewart worked at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., where he was the school’s assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to that, Stewart worked six years at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tenn., from 1996-2002, coaching football, basketball and baseball. In 1995-96, he was an assistant baseball coach at Freed-Hardeman University.

In his football coaching career, Stewart has been part of eight regional championships and one state championship.

Stewart, 37, graduated from Freed-Hardeman in 1994 with a degree in social/behavioral sciences. In 2006, he added a master’s in curriculum and instruction from Freed-Hardeman.

Stewart and his wife Sandy have two children—Madelynn (6) and Maci (5).
